A man who was thankful
I am thrilled at the stories that are starting to make their way back to me involving our “Smiley Blanket”. The blanket idea started as an inspiration and is proving to be the vehicle of love I had hoped it would be.
Recently, a man in Greenville, SC ordered ten blankets and well…. I was blown away at what he was planning to do with the blankets. Here is the message he sent….
“Your video has really moved me. I soon will be placing an order for several to give to police officers who can carry them in their patrol car and give them out as needed. God bless you and the work you’re doing.”
Today, he sent me this message …
Veronica,
Just a note to tell you that, for the first time today, I set foot in the rescue mission in downtown Greenville (SC). It was profoundly humbling to hand a blanket to a man who was truly thankful, as it was so very clear at that moment how God has chosen to bless me and how unworthy I am.
I did the demo for about 5 men there and they all were, predictably, amazed; which has been the universal response. I was clear in that I wanted the blankets to go to children who might not already have a pillow and blanket and the guy in charge assured me that they would.
On the way out of town, I spotted a police officer, pulled over, and gave him one. He told me there were several officers in search of a child that was seen walking alone down a street, and that the blanket may go to that child. In any case, I’m confident he’ll make sure it also goes where it needs to go. My brother is a Greenville City police officer, and I gave him a couple to carry in his patrol car or give to officers who might be aware of a child in need.
I also gave one to my sister-in-law so she could show it to the man that runs the bus ministry at her church. Just doing what I can to “share the love.”
For reasons I won’t go into, the Christmas season is not a particularly joyous time for me. Thank you for (unwittingly) helping me see God’s goodness, mercy, and amazing grace during a difficult time.
I’m sure I don’t understand God’s ways, but your story is an inspiration for me. Someone said something to me today that, shamefully, I’d never heard before: “God bless you.” I was instantly humbled in a way I’d never experienced before.
Thank you for the work you’re doing, and may God continue to bless you as you bless others.
This is what it is all about…. spreading love to someone who needs a little of it today to make it to tomorrow. I am moved by his letter.
